River Clean

At SEA LIFE London we want to clear out plastic pollution from the iconic River Thames.

Protect River Thames

Did you know that plastic pollution kills millions of marine creatures each year?

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Thames21 to get stuck in the mud and help clear out some of London’s messiest riverbanks.

Plastic bags, disposable cutlery, old phone covers, drink bottles, batteries… you name it, we’ve found it! And unfortunately it all poses a big threat to our marine creatures, whether it stays in our rivers or gets washed into the ocean.

Over the last five years we’ve helped Thames21 clear out the clutter from the riverbanks of Kew, Hammersmith, the Isle of Dogs and Chelsea. We also funded and organised two River Cleans right under the London Eye! It’s just the start of our mission to put an end to plastic pollution in our rivers and oceans – we hope you’ll join us to find out more!

An estimated 26 million tons of plastic pollution ends up in the oceans each year where it chokes, entangles and poisons marine life.
