Workshops for Early Years

Who In The Sea Could The Best Creature Be?

Our Early Years Programme gives young children a fun and memorable experience that helps them to ‘understand the world’ - one of the four learning and development requirements of the DfE Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The session is set up in the style of a talent. With the use of puppets, children will meet three ocean characters; Magnus the Shark, Tyler the turtle and Mia the seahorse who each tell the class amazing facts about themselves.

The session incorporates different props and games in order to keep the children active and engaged. For example a recycling game will invite the children to help clean up the sea by finding the ocean litter scattered around and putting them in the correct bins. This is a great session to introduce young children to marine life and the issues that it faces, in a fun and engaging way.

For more information visit the talks and tours section on our admissions and bookings page.

Workshops for Primary Schools

Our Primary School Programme is perfect for introducing pupils to a range of scientific topics and encouraging excitement and curiosity about marine phenomena in the natural world. What is more in addition to our self-guided learning resources our workshops are designed to support several core elements of the National Curriculum.

KS1: Commotion in the Ocean

Commotion in the Ocean is a 30minute workshop which explores animals that live in very different environments and what adaptations they have developed to help them cope with their surroundings. Why do different animals look the way they do? And how are their bodies designed to help them hide, find food and defend themselves from predators?

KS2: Undersea Britain

Undersea Britain gives children the opportunity to discuss different habitats and adaptations as well as looking specifically at some of the fabulous marine life found right here in British waters. We will also test their ability to use flow charts and have a go at classifying different marine species. This is a 45mintue workshop.

For more information visit the talks and tours section on our admissions and bookings page.

Workshops for Secondary Schools

Our secondary school programme allows pupils to come face to face with marine ecosystems and observe structure and function of living organisms, their evolution and where they sit within a food web.

KS3: Underwater World Tour

Our underwater world tour is a 45minute guided tour around some of our main aquarium displays. Our expert Guest Experience team will explain why a Green Sea turtle is green? What extra senses do sharks have to help them hunt? Why crocodiles never run out of teeth, and much much more! With a minimum of one month’s notice, this tour may be tailored to cover areas of specific interest; for example focusing on marine threats and conservation, hunting adaptations or camouflage.

KS2-KS4: Behind the Scenes Tour

Team up with our expert aquarist guides to go deep behind the scenes at SEA LIFE London Aquarium and discover how we care for over 600 marine and fresh-water species. For 45mintues you’ll have privileged access to the working areas usually closed to the public where you can learn about our extensive breeding, research and conservation programmes and see how the fish food is prepared!

For more information visit the talks and tours section on our admission and booking page.
