To quality for a place you must:
All placements can involve anything and everything that the Animal Care Team do here at The Scottish SEA LIFE Sanctuary. The daily routines will consist of helping with clinical care of seal pups, hospital cleaning and maintenance, record keeping, fish feeding, taking part in conservation events and also interacting with visitors. A great attitude is a must and in return we can promise you'll leave with a great feeling, having contributed to the welfare and care of our creatures!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do just a day or two work experience?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. All volunteers at The Scottish SEA LIFE Sanctuary are fully integrated into our team, and we spend a lot of time in ensuring that you can get the most out of your placement with us. Due to the nature of the business and the amount of time needed to fully train our volunteers placements must be for a minimum of 1 week.
Is there a cost for the work experience?
There is no cost. Work experience at the Sanctuary is completely free of charge. We understand the lack of opportunities to gain experience in this field which is why we offer the placements. The only cost to you is your time and all we ask is that you give it your full commitment and bring a smile with you!
Do you offer accommodation during the placements?
Unfortunately we do not provide accommodation. There is a bed and breakfast/caravan accommodation just 5 minutes walk away called "Dalrannoch Farm". They offer special rates for those on work experience with us. Oban, which is only a 20 minute bus ride away also has various youth hostels. Please do take the time to familiarise yourself with where we are situated. We are 2.5 hours from Glasgow and 3 hours from Edinburgh.
What date restrictions do you have?
We have no restrictions whatsoever. We are open throughout the year and will take volunteers all year round. The dates are up to you.
Please note we are not currently accepting applications for volunteers as we are fully booked until July 2017.
